Ask exactly which asset secures the loan and whether you can still use it normally. A restriction on savings, a vehicle lien and borrowing against a home create different practical consequences. Record the value tied up and the process for releasing it when the loan is repaid.

A lower interest rate may be attractive, but compare written offers after valuation charges, filing costs and any required insurance. Consider whether you would still choose the loan if the pledged asset became unavailable during a period of reduced income.
