Those into the more dangerous elements of Minecraft – i.e. roaming through the wilderness with few weapons and resources – should enjoy this far-flashier game. Jurassic in scale and motifs, Studio Wildcard's Ark provides a sense of wonder and heart-pounding thrills that are rarely matched. Players will be on the edge of their seats fending off reptilians as well as other humans, often with simple, cobbled-together weap

Witches show up in the strangest of places, too, with some of them popping up in caves. Players can recognize them in the darkness thanks to their cackle, but those who are unprepared to fight against a Witch will soon find themselves respawning at their b

Someone needs to have a nice sitdown with the gaming industry about VR and what it can and can't do. The ability to transport the viewer inside a scene is incredible, and if that scene happens to be in the cockpit of some kind of ship, then it opens up a whole range of movement options that would otherwise be a bad idea. Putting the player behind the eyes of a protagonist who walks around freely in the standard FPS viewpoint, on the other hand, is something that has only sounded awesome. It's hasn't been. Really, seriously, it's kind of sucked, and while wanting it to be different won't change that, clever viewing systems just might. So now Minecraft has official VR support, and it's taken an interesting approach to the presentation that's a little awkward but usable.

The lore implications for this creature are terrifying and completely mysterious. If that wasn't already bad enough, this creature will also fly about attacking anything that isn’t an undead creature. If the player doesn’t quickly bring this beast down, its destructive potential will obliterate all life and severely alter the landsc

Finally, the construction element is there. Minecraft ’s blocky aesthetic has constantly been compared to that of LEGO’s, and really that’s true. In fact, it’s likely that it was intended to be that way. As kids, many of us were fascinated with LEGO’s. Building castles and cars using fundamentally simple components was appealing. Even better, it breathed experimentation. It encouraged trying something new. It fed that feeling of individual creative freedom by allowing us to build something that we wanted. That idea is omnipresent in Minecraft ; it’s the crux of the construction element in the game. Simple cubes of dirt, rock or sand can be used to build everything from houses to skyscrapers to sculptures. With a little hard work, you can make your "castle of dreams." The Creative Mode, with its free movement and ample resources, is the pinnacle of this mentality; you can create what you want. And gamers have. There are hundreds of Minecraft videos online of people building enormous, monolithic structures with the game’s basic building pieces. Minecraft has proven that this idea can be made into something massive; gamers are guaranteed to create something when given the tools to do so.

They were the icons of an era when gaming exclusives drew lines in the sands and led to some of the fiercest playground battles over system loyalty the industry would ever see. Sonic/Sega fans would push and say "Sonic games are faster, and therefore better. Plus, we've got blood in Mortal Kombat." The Mario/Nintendo loyalist would throw sand in their foe's eyes and retort, "oh yeah? Well Mario's about the adventure, and so is Final Fantasy." It was a time when you usually owned only one system, and you owned it because you would only get certain games. It was...well kind of a glorious age.

While that could serve as the intro to any number of creepy fan fiction tales, my thoughts were much more earnest, yet still slightly troubling. Specifically, they were about how the blue hedgehog and vertically gifted plumber were real oddballs as far as company mascots go, in that they weren't really dreamed up by a PR team or advertising firm, but rather by the products themselves.

The problem is that VR is such an incredibly tempting target that it's nearly impossible to not experiment with applying it to the FPS experience. (For the sake of argument, lets call any first-person game you move around in an FPS experience, even if no shooting is involved.) The incredible presence is still wonderful even after repeated exposure, and who wouldn't want to feel the full sense of scale of the world they're gaming inside? VR Minecraft Mods? After the hundreds of hours I've put into that game it sounds like the best idea ever, except for the small issue outlined in the previous paragraph. On the plus side, Microsoft and Mojang haven't ignored the problem, and while one viewing mode is self-defeating and another a guaranteed ticket to quick nausea, the recommended VR controls actually work. It's awkward and jerky, but actually allows the game to be played with no discomfort.

This colorful romp by Dekovir is described as a blend of Dungeon Keeper , Terraria , and Dwarf Fortress , which comes through given the versatility in the building and survival features. Craft the World offers tons of rewarding gameplay as players command a band of dwarves to craft, build, and fend off the things that go bump in the ni
