Model both phases of the line
During the draw period, the agreement may let you borrow and repay repeatedly within a limit. When that period ends, new borrowing stops and repayment terms change. Ask for examples based on the balance you expect to owe at that transition.
A variable rate can change the cost even before the repayment phase. Read how the index and margin set the rate, any introductory period and applicable limits. Ask whether a fixed-rate conversion is available and what it costs rather than assuming it is automatic.

Why can my HELOC payment rise without a new withdrawal?
A variable interest rate may increase, or the line may move from interest-only payments into principal repayment. Fees can also affect the amount due. Review the rate-reset and repayment provisions together.
Can a HELOC lender reduce access to unused credit?
Access can be restricted in circumstances allowed by the agreement and applicable rules, including certain changes in property value or repayment ability. An undrawn limit should not be treated as cash already in your account.
