The biggest cost driver is never the choice of framework — it is unclear scope. Every open question in the specification is converted into padding inside the number you receive. A supplier that does not know the edge cases will assume the more expensive option. Spending a week on requirements work frequently cuts the total far more than any rate negotiation.

Connections to other systems are another reliable source of cost. A screen that writes to your own database is predictable; the same functionality connected to a legacy ERP is another matter entirely. The effort hides in the other system: poor go development outsourcing documentation, waiting on someone else's team, data that does not match your model. Ask any vendor to price integrations separately, as that is where the numbers slip.

Non-functional requirements can easily double the estimate. A tool used by a small internal team is a very different build from the same idea serving thousands of external customers. Audit and compliance requirements, uptime targets, scalability, data retention rules government and public sector software development accessibility all add measurable effort. State them early or expect the estimate to move later.

The mix of people behind the number matters. An hourly rate says little on its own: a senior ecommerce development company engineer at a premium rate can be cheaper overall than a pair of junior developers who require heavy code review. Also ask what else appears on the invoice: coordination, testing, release engineering and UX design are legitimate costs, but these should be named rather than hidden inside a blended rate.

The number in the proposal is never what you will actually spend. Plan for infrastructure, third-party licences, monitoring and a maintenance allowance each year. A common working assumption holds that any production system requires a noticeable fraction of its original build cost per year for updates, security patches and small improvements. Treating the launch as the finish line has always been the classic mistake.
